The World Social Forum is not an organization but a process and a space owned by its participants. It relies on the resources and work of hundreds of local organising committees, who come together to build local, national, regional, thematic and international events.
The Forum receives financial and in-kind support from foundations, trade unions, solidarity organizations, local government entities and local business. Much of its support, however, comes from the hard work and the contributions of the thousands of individuals and organizations that participate in WSF activities. For the WSF to grow and be truly owned by its participants, the percentage of support from individuals and organizations involved directly in the process needs to grow from year to year.
The fund is overseen by the International Council's Resource commission and deposited in the Ethical Bank (Banca Etica, Italy). It will be used to cover costs for the general organisation of the WSF Global action 2008, as well as for the WSF ongoing inclusive process (outreach, facilitation, communication, evaluation), to contribute to the participation of people from movements all around the world, to bring the WSF in other places where there are less local resources to start with. The Ethical Bank Foundation (Fondazione culturale responsabilità etica) is the account holder.
